Plastic design in everyday life LVR Industrial Museum Peter Behrens Building

Exhibitions & Museums

Plasticshave become an integral part of our daily lives.

Inextricably linked to industrial mass production, they accompany technical developments and open up unimaginable design possibilities. Whether it's the Volksempfänger, Trabant, Panton chair, Bobby Car, or iMac: plastic products have become part of the collective memory and have now also found their way into museums.

The exhibition "Class and Mass" runs until December 23, 2023 , showcasing the many possibilities of inexpensive substitutes and mass-produced products to high-tech components and design icons. The objects that have ended up in the museum tell their story and answer the question of what has become of them—as waste in the environment or objects in the museum.
