LWL Zollern Colliery, Dortmund

The eight museums of industrial culture in Westphalia bring the industrial past to life. These industrial monuments are more than just fascinating sites from a bygone era. The museums are open to contemporary themes such as the future of work or global freight transport. In this way, they stimulate critical discussion about the consequences of industrialization and provide impetus for sustainable development.

LWL Museums of Industrial Culture. The eight museums are:

• Zeche Zollern (Dortmund); this is also known as the “Castle of Labor” because of its stunning architecture. It is a former coal mine that stands out for its richly decorated brick facades and its famous Art Nouveau-style machine hall.

• Textilwerk (Bocholt); this museum consists of a historic weaving mill and a spinning mill. In the weaving mill, you can hear and feel the history; the historic looms are still in operation. The spinning mill (housed in a beautifully restored industrial building) showcases the rich history of fashion and culture.
