TextilWerk Bocholt: Forum for textile culture

Exhibitions & Museums

With its two locations on the left and right sides of the Aa River, TextilWerk Bocholt forms a unique historical ensemble of textile production.

More than 20,000 spindles once turned at Spinning Mill Herding in Bocholt. On three floors, the history and present of textiles come back to life here. Exhibitions provide insights into historical and modern technology, showcase fashion design and international textile art. The halls and a glass roof café provide space for events.

In the immediate vicinity of the spinning mill, accessed by a bridge, is the weaving mill. Here it smells of oil and labor, and the looms rattle so loudly that you involuntarily shield your ears with your hands. What visitors experience in the museum today was daily life for thousands of men and women a hundred years ago. Under the shed roofs of the large weaving hall, distribution belts and long drive shafts set more than 30 historic machines in motion. Museum staff daily produce towels and tablecloths from the historic collection. Away from the noisy factory, a fully furnished workers' house and accompanying kitchen garden give insight into the frugal lives of families.
