Exhibitions & Museums

At first glance, the beautiful brick and opulent facades are more reminiscent of an aristocratic residence than a coal-mining mine.

This was precisely part of the building idea more than 100 years ago. Today, the "Castle of Work" is considered one of the most extraordinary testimonies of Germany's industrial past. The machine hall with its impressive Jugendstill portal became an icon. Behind its magnificent facades lies a world of difficult and dangerous working conditions.

Our exhibits and tours bring you closer to the history of the mine and the daily life of the miners. Look behind the ornate brick facades, climb to the shaft trestle, follow the path of coal and immerse yourself in a world of hard work underground.
