Altena castle with adventure lift

Large and magnificent, Burg Altena has towered over the town of Altena on the Wulfsegge since the 12th century.

Almost 900 years of history have fundamentally changed the fortress several times. In the years 1906 to 1915, it was extensively renovated and converted into the imposing castle. With the new adventure lift, you can travel from the valley floor of the town of Altena to the castle courtyard without any barriers. The "Burg Altena" experience lift is the new gateway to the castle: it goes 90 metres into the mountain and 80 metres up into it.
