ZOOM Erlebniswelt Gelsenkirchen - "World trip in one day"

Tourism, Holidays & Nature

Alaska, Africa, Asia: in the ZOOM Erlebniswelt, visitors take a trip around the world in one day - 365 days a year in the middle of the Ruhr region.

At the beginning of the millennium, a zoo unique in Germany was built on a site of more than 30 hectares. On the grounds of the historic Ruhr Zoo, landscape architects seized the opportunity to carry out one of the most extensive zoo redesign projects in Europe. In this way, something completely new was created: a consistently natural habitat in which around 900 animals in more than 100 species find an almost natural home.

More habitat for animals - adventure space for people

The concept of the ZOOM Erlebniswelt is based on three guiding principles: Closer - More space - In the middle. The zoo thus offers visitors a very special experience: they independently and directly explore and discover the distant habitats of Alaska, Africa and Asia. Many themed attractions bring the culture and living conditions of these foreign continents to life and invite you to join them. People and animals meet in many different places, sometimes separated only by a pane of glass. The boundaries between the enclosures are subtly lifted, making them seem almost invisible and making a visit to the zoo feel like a real expedition.

Since its opening in 2005, more than ten million visitors have gone on a journey of discovery through ZOOM Erlebniswelt. How much adults, young people and children appreciate this zoo is demonstrated by its regular top positions in leisure industry rankings: for several years in a row, ZOOM Erlebniswelt has won gold in the category of Germany's most family-friendly and best zoo.
