Maurice de Vlaminck (1876-1958) is one of the most important French painters of modernism. The Von der Heydt Museum Wuppertal is showing the first posthumous retrospective of the artist's work in Germany, bringing a central !gure of 20th-century French art back to the public's attention. Using some 50 paintings, the exhibition provides an overview of his painting oeuvre: from his first compositions, executed at the beginning of the 20th century, to his famous Fauvist paintings. The exhibition is in collaboration with Museum Barberini in Potsdam. Lenders include the Art Institute of Chicago, the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Tate London and the Centre Pompidou of Paris.
