Open Monument Day

Every second Sunday in September is dedicated to monument visits.

This is Germany’s contribution to European Heritage Days. During guided tours led by heritage conservationists in North Rhine-Westphalia, visitors will see concrete examples of their work. Archaeologists, conservators, and artisans will demonstrate their working methods and techniques, drawing attention to details that others might not notice at first glance. This year’s event will take place on September 13, 2026.

2026 Motto: Networks : Monuments & Infrastructure. We are all supported by networks: whether they consist of family, friends, clubs, churches, or professional connections; we never exist in isolation, but live in contact with others who form our personal network. These personal networks give rise to the society in which we live and work. It is the network through which we move within the country, in which we exchange goods and services, but above all, thoughts and ideas to secure and develop our existence.
