This handy annual brochure NordRhein-Ruhr Topevents with highlights from the NordRhein-Westfalen(NRW) region has been published since 2010. This region in Germany has almost the same surface area as the Netherlands. NRW has slightly more inhabitants, namely 18 million. Almost half of the area is agriculture and a quarter is forest. One national park and 14 nature parks can be found in North Rhine-Westphalia. 29 cities have more than 100,000 inhabitants, with Cologne being the city of millions.

Over 24million tourists visit this region annually. The number of overnight stays is over 53 million. Most of the visitors are from the Netherlands. Every year, 11 million foreign tourists stay overnight in the region and as many as 2.5 million of them come from the Netherlands. This publication in a resource for day trips, multi-day visits with overnight stays and for longer vacation stays.
