LVR-Niederrheinmuseum Wesel

LVR-Industrial Museum Wesel

A river that connects us. German-Dutch history along the Rhine from 1800 to 2000.

The new exhibition in the LVR-Niederrheinmuseum Wesel tells an exciting common history. During two turbulent centuries there were many questions, events and challenges which touched the Dutch and the Germans, united them, but also divided them. Especially in the border area and along the Rhine, the central transport and trade route, there were different emotions and points of contact. See how parallel and contrasting developments influenced the perception of the neighbouring country. Get to know various bridge figures who worked across the border, influenced both countries or brought new ideas with them. Impressive objects and an exciting multimedia presentation bring this history to life. The objects come from everyday life as well as from art and culture, politics and business. The exhibition is available completely bilingual in German and Dutch. This exhibition also enlarges the overall offer of the museum, which now extends from the early Middle Ages to the threshold of the present.

We cordially invite you to explore the history of the low-lying part of Rheinland in the new LVR Niederrheinmuseum in Wesel. The museum tells the history of Wesel and Niederrhein in close relation to the Netherlands and the background to major European events. As a cross-border German-Dutch museum, the museum shows the Niederrhein region in breadth of its art, culture and land history developments. The museum is located in the proviand warehouse of the former fortress citadel Wesel.
